Dear members,

The Mid Autumn Festival is just around the corner (21st September 2021) and although Victoria  is still under lock-down until an unknown date, it doesn’t mean we cannot celebrate Mid-Autumn from home.

CAV EXCO is planning some online activities for the families which will be announced soon. But a Mid-Autumn festival won’t be complete without mooncakes and children playing with their lanterns.
So the,CAV EXCO will be bringing this joy to your home with our online ordering of mooncakes and lanterns.

Back by popular demand

As a gesture to thank their clients for their support during the pandemic in 2020 & 2021, Red Emperor Restaurant in Southgate, Melbourne will make mooncakes for CAV for the 2021 Mid Autumn Festival. We are  very privileged to secure an allocation to share with our members. The mooncakes are made fresh in Melbourne without any preservatives and made to order from CAV. Therefore orders will close one week before the delivery date.

Red Emperor History

Red Emperor is one of Melbourne’s long-standing dining venues that has been delighting many with authentic Chinese cuisine and daily yum-cha. This stalwart institution started in 1992 at Southgate Restaurant and Shopping Precinct situated between The Arts Centre Melbourne and the Langham Hotel. Red Emperor prides itself for not using MSG in their food preparation and the ability to cater to special dietary requirements or food intolerance. Their daily yum cha is considered to be one of Melbourne’s best, especially by those in the food circle. Delectable dim sum and dumplings made fresh in-house daily around dawn are offered to guests on trolleys wheeled around endlessly by helpful staff eager to guide and please.

Chinese Lanterns

Remember when you were little, back in Malaysia or Singapore? These cellophane wrapped coloured lanterns were the rage. We would parade around the streets with these beautiful lanterns, under the watchful eyes of our parents.

We were lucky to find these from dragonfly lanterns in Melbourne, who in turn import these direct from Malaysia.

In time, these handmade lanterns – a dying art, will no longer be available, so get them while you can and give your children (and yourself) a chance to enjoy a colourful lantern parade! This will be a memory that your children will cherish forever – as opposed to a covid lockdown one.

The size of the lantern varies by model, so for example, the goldfish one below is around 41cm x 32cm. We don’t have that many so get them while you can. They may not be available this time next year.
