The Social Dance Group
Started in 2024, the Social Ballroom Dancing Group (SDG) caters to beginner and intermediate level ballroom and street latin dancers. We have two concurrent weekly dance programs; one for beginners and the other for intermediate dancers respectively.
SDG is focused on getting its dancers on the dance floor in the quickest possible time… and enjoying the learning experience.
Recognising that dancing is a social activity, SDG is focused on members getting to know and dance with each other at regular in-house SDG social functions, practice nights, and in public social events, preparing our dancers to dance in either a club or cruise dance floor.
Partners are preferred but not required.

Learn to Dance with SDG
Want to dance and have a good time with other fun loving people? Or perhaps just wanting to look...
Our lessons are taught by two professional dance teachers, Craig Monley and Corey Stemp
2025 Class Schedule
Weekly classes begin on Wednesday 5th February 2025, with 46-48 weeks of lessons planned for the year.
There are two groups within each class: one for beginners, and one for those with some dance experience. During the class, each teacher will instruct one group before swapping to the other, so you’ll have the opportunity to learn from both teachers.
If there are sufficient new beginners in early 2025, we will add a new beginners class to assist new dancers to transition to the existing beginners’ class.
The current schedule for each class:
Teacher #1: 7:30 pm – 8:15 pm
Social: 8:15 pm – 8:45 pm
Teacher #2: 8:45 pm – 9:30 pm
Our practice night is on the 2nd Sunday of the month. We also organise a number of events and get togethers throughout the year.
Fees and sign-ups:
SDG membership fees are as follows (works out to be just over $10 for 1.5 hr of lesson and 0.5 hr of social):
$500 per person for the year.
$300 per person for six months.
As the SDG is a subgroup of the CAV, membership in the CAV is also required. This is currently $98 a year for all members with a $11 one-time admin fee for new CAV members.
Casual rates for new SDG members are $60 (for 4 consecutive classes) with a maximum of 12 classes, after which new members must decide if they wish to commit to membership for the rest of the year.
Not sure if our program is right for you?
Register with us to try out the first class at no cost and with no commitment to continue. Send your queries or register your interest by emailing us at sdg@cavinc.com.au.
A beginner level Bachata class did this after about 45mins at our Bachata Christmas in July social.
Dancers of all levels giving it a go!
Its all about the fun
The aim of the SDG is for members to have fun dancing, and enjoying the company of like minded people. Why not give it a try?
