History of CAV Ballroom Dancing
The CAV Ballroom Dancing Group (BDG) was formed in June 1995 by a small group of CAV members who were keen to learn more about ballroom dancing. The owner of Charisma Dance Studio, Mr Robert Street, was engaged to provide tuitions. As the news of the formation spread, more CAV members joined the Group. A committee was formed to administer the activities. Ms Winnie Quah was elected the first Chairperson.
BDG flourished as more members joined. Soon it has become one of the main activities of CAV. Besides enjoying ballroom dancing on a weekly basis, the Group had organised many social functions which raised substantial amount of fund for CAV.
In 2005, BDG celebrated the 10th anniversary with a grand Dinner Dance and floor shows. As a showcase for the occasion, the Formation Dance Team was formed. The Team had performed publicly at the 2007 Chinese New Year Galaball and the 2007 CAV Galaball.
The success of BDG owed much to the supports of the members, the dedication of the chairpersons and the committees. The past chairpersons are Winnie Quah (1995, 1998); Doreen Wong (1996); Lillian Lai (1997,1999,2002-2007); Teck Thia (2000); Chee Mun Leong (2001); Sue Labberton (2003); Rex Lai (2008)
